Tyler Peckinpah? Madea Dogs?
Tyler Perry Bites Straw Dogs for the
Goddamndest (God-Fearing) Movie Poster in Years
As brilliant an obnoxious schtick as it might be, I can’t really go to bat for Tyler Perry and his seemingly inexhaustible onslaught of Bible-thumpin’, cross-dressin’ Madea movies.
However, a poster for the latest edition - I Can Do Bad All By Myself - caught my eye at a theater and, great shades of Dustin Hoffman gone shotgun-wild, it’s a dead-on homage to the haunting one-sheet for cinematic brutarian Sam Peckinpah’s 1971 masterpiece, Straw Dogs.
Now I know one of Madea’s trademark tropes is to bust out firearms, but … can this be the movie where she is just pushed … too … FAR?!?
My co-worker hilariously suggested that perhaps I Can Do Bad All by Myself is an actual remake of Straw Dogs. After all, the title wo
uld work brilliantly.
Alas, Madea’s shattered spectacle have been replaced as ICDBABM’s main poster image by a thoughtful, disco-ball-lit, biologically female lovely.
It’s a shame when weirder heads fail to prevail.

So wait, that poster was real? I saw it on the internet and thought it was merely a hilarious photoshop job.
I witnessed it hanging in the Evanston multiplex on Saturday night when I went to see INGLORIOUS BASTERDS.
I could not believe my eyes!
